IRS Rules for Filing the Tax Return of a Deceased Person - yes this is important

Vernon McKay's 2016 Tax Return was filed as married filing Jointly NOT by the ESTATE

Who can file Married filing Jointly for a Deceased Person? 

• Before April 15... 
  • Executor with Court Certified papers
  • Administrator and Spouse both sign with Court Certified Papers
• After April 15
  • ​All of the Above if an Extension was filed
  • The spouse with a letter stating the Estate failed to file a timely return

The following IRS letter is from the IRS Collection Department which asked for more information. 

Please note the date on this letter is February 21, 2017.  It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the IRS to receive documents normally.  
Also included is the actual Court Certificate of Administrator Appointment that is not for Vernon's Widow
